Sons & Fathers (Single)
A little over four years ago, I sat at my desk completely terrified. At the time, my wife was around 6 month pregnant with our first child, a boy, and I had no idea what would happen once I became a father. My brain swelled with one scenario after another; ways I would fail him and, in turn, cause him to fail. As he walked through his life, how would he follow in my footsteps? Would he choose to walk in the ones I was proudest to have laid, or the ones I tried the hardest to cover up? Would he look like me, talk like me, or act like me in more ways than I would ever want him to? Would I do right by him?
"The apple's bound to fall, be it near or be it far, but I can tell you, either way, there is no hiding who's you are."
I wrote this song that day, in a single sitting. As these questions ran themselves out of my mind and onto the paper, I began to feel more at ease. Since then, this song been a form of therapy to me as I navigate what it means to raise another human being. It's one of my favorite tunes that I have written. I hope you enjoy it too. Thanks for your support, and as always, thanks for listening.
P.S. The kid came out alright. Just don't tell him it's bedtime. He doesn't like bedtime...
